After sleeping on it, I still had no concepts for a design. Then an idea came to me — let’s make the conceptual process a collaborative effort. How much better could the idea be if I tapped into the creative collective around me? I know a bunch of really rad people that have great ideas all the time.

So, here’s the plan:
1. I’m soliciting you — my collective friends and colleagues – for ideas, concepts, themes, etc for a shirt to enter into the Design By Humans 10k Contest. Post your ideas below. Read what others are suggesting. And together we’ll pick the best option.

2. From there I’ll jump into design — I’ll chronicle the process with pics (and maybe video) of my sketches, screenshots (on my blog and dribbble) and get your feedback every step of the way.

3. Let the Voting begin — once it’s ready, I’ll submit it to DBH and call again on the community to logon, vote, comment, and spread the word. Can we do this?

What’s in it for you? Other than teaming up and giving your best ideas away? A look into the apparel design process with a collaborative twist. In the (slim) chance we win, we’ll come up with some prizes (shirts, cash, etc) to raffle off to those who participated.

The deadline for submissions is August 22nd — so it’ll be a quick process. In the immortal words of my favorite May client — “Time is of the essence!”

Huge News.

I’m excited and honored to be stepping into my new role as CEO of RedisWhite.

I’ve been actively involved in RiW since the early days—playing a part in the initial concept and development. I also designed the RiW identity and helped build and foster the online brand through design, submission screening, production, and marketing.

It’s been exciting watching the community grow over the past 15 months and seeing the quality of talent that continues to populate the site. And while sales have not been what we had hoped for, I’m optimistic about the future of RiW. Moving headquarters to Southern California will put us at one of the main hubs of apparel production and allow us to capitalize on new resources and opportunities.

Personally, I’ve been designing and printing tees for years. From church camps in high school, to campus clubs in college, to my own screen-printing company after graduation—it’s just in my blood. RedisWhite is the next phase in my love for apparel design.

Stay tuned for all the details…

I’ll be hanging out here this Saturday night with my wife and daughter (big Whale Wars fan). There’s a long list of great artists and I’m looking forward to meeting up with @hemeon and @jimiyo.

I wanted to take a brief moment to introduce May. Those of you stopping by may not realize that I (Garth Humbert / IamGarth) have morphed my freelance life into a full-fledged gig. Shake The World is an interactive, not-for-profit documentary that will showcase simultaneous events taking place all around the world at the exact same time.

You might be wondering how they’re gonna do that… On April 11th, 2009, at 4PM Pacific Time, they’re inviting anyone and everyone to record something (yourself, your dog, your girlfriend, your surroundings), for 1 minute; sixty seconds of your life, any way you want to frame it. Be creative. Be innovative. Be inspiring. Be provoking. Basically anything you find interesting can be recorded.

They’ll provide submission guidelines, recording time (depending on time zone), and other details next month. So, check out Shake the World and start thinking about what you’re going to record on April 11th!

If you’re a designer/illustrator/photographer/etc and are wondering how you get your own space at Krop, hit me up…it’s invite only ;)

The file includes the icons you see here: RSS, LinkedIn, Plaxo, Twitter, Adobe PDF (yet to incorporate into my site). There is also a “blank” that you can colorize and add your own icon(s) to. The icons in the file are much larger than you see here (roughly 230 x 230px)—which makes ‘em easier to work with and allows different size icons to be generated.

It would be really cool if we could turn this into a community project—continuing to build out the set. Email me any improvements and/or additions (new icons) you make, I’ll update the file and we’ll continue to share and grow the set. Who’s with me?

So, I’ve done quite a bit of work for a little online company called LadyBird that’s very near and dear to my heart—it’s my wife’s company.

It started in April with a logotype, logomark (the little birdy), some business cards, and a splash page. Over the course of the last 8 months there’s been additional items—postcards, ink stamps, labels, stickers, etc—but it’s the website that has evolved the most. Now in it’s third iteration, it sports over 40 items, has a little gallery, a secret section for special customers, and it’s newest addition—the Nest—my wife’s blog. Definitely a good read for Mom’s, parents, and those who like a good laugh once in a while.
